PROFESSOR MIKE SCHULTZ

Professor Mike Schultz has been training in the Jiu Jitsu community for over 15 years.  He is a well known training partner, competitor, coach, and all around great guy!! We are so fortunate to have him training and coaching at SPAR! Check out his bio here!

"Hi, my name is Mike. I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and nogi grappling since December of 2007. I received my Black Belt on November 9th, 2016 from Fabio Gurgel, head instructor and leader of Team Alliance at the Sao Paulo head quarters.

My philosophy on BJJ is ultimately it should be fun. The goal should be to be better than you were the day before. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. I feel whatever reason you signed up for class you are just as important as the next member. Whether you signed up for stress relief, to lose a little weight, learn self defense, make some new friends or want to become a World Champion you will be treated equally.

My style in BJJ is focused on submissions and escapes. While I think sub only matches are the purest form of grappling and I’d prefer super fights, no points. I try to compete as much as possible under any rule set, weight and absolute. I have a 7-1 record in amateur MMA. 6 submissions, 1 KO, 4 Titles. Combined with BJJ I have over 40 wins in competition by submission.

I was nicknamed “YouTube” because literally everyday I watch BJJ videos on YouTube. I also constantly watch videos on social media to try and keep up with the latest techniques. I believe repping is the most important tool to becoming better at Jiu Jitsu. If you take one of my classes I will prepare you for gi, nogi, and MMA. I look forward to seeing you!!"

Professor Mike is teaching BJJ Gi Fundamentals every Tuesday from 6pm-6:40pm and No Gi Fundamentals every Thursday from 6pm-6:40pm at SPAR!!
